Ungrateful people forcing Hiew to resign – Mujie

KINABALU: Former Sabah DAP vice state chairman Edward Ewol Mujie has
come to the defence of Hiew King Cheu and criticised those who want the
Api Api assemblyman to quit his seat.
Mujie said the action of
Jimmy Wong, Junz Wong, Chan Foong Hin and Edwin Bosi in starting a
signature campaing to force Hiew to resign from the state seat he won in
the 13th general election is a dark day in the DAP history in Sabah.
“I
have to say this because I feel that the people ought to know of some
facts, and Hiew should not be hit like this, it is highly unfair and
unjust. Their action typically fitted into a Malay famous saying
‘Seperti lacang lupakan kulit’!” said the former DAP leader in a
statement yesterday.
As the ex-vice state chairman of the Sabah
DAP state committee, Mujie said he supported all the way that Hiew
should not resign because the people in Sabah still needed him and his
excellent service.
“We see him as a service orientated assemblyman
and he had proved that in the past. The people voted for him are mostly
because of his right attitude to genuinely to fulfill his spirit to
serve the people better. I was with him for the last six years and I
know in his heart he only thinks of the people’s problems, even in his
leisure time. The people whom he had helped would remember that.
“Unfortunately,
today he has to face heartache from those people within the DAP Sabah
whom he had helped in many ways in the past years.
“’Ungrateful’
is the only word I can describe them. Just for an example, Dr Edwin Bosi
after leaving PKR Penampang wanted to join DAP. I strongly objected to
the proposal, and told Hiew not to accept him into the party. Hiew said
we should give him a chance and let him perform in DAP, and we don’t
have enough Bumiputra members in the party. So, today who is turning the
gun on him?”
Mujie added Junz is a person who does not feel
thankful to Hiew for all the work he had done for him in the past. He
recalled that Hiew even saved and bailed him out from a RM100 million
legal suit on a defamation case along with many other cases where the
people had prepared their cases to get him.
“I remembered before
he joined Sabah DAP, he came to the office to see me and Hiew, seeking
advice on whether he should join SAPP or not, because at that time SAPP
wanted his group of youth and himself very much to join. Hiew patiently
explained the facts, pros and cons to him. A few weeks later, he decided
to join, and Hiew allowed him to take care of the Api Api branch and
carry out the work with the youth. From there on Hiew became his coach
and advisor.
“During the 2010 Sabah DAP state committee election,
these people who are against Hiew should touch their heart and ask who
gave them the chance to be eligible and qualified to be a candidate in
the state committee election due to their insufficient party age, and on
how they made Hiew lose his state chairmanship to Jimmy Wong, as agreed
by all to let Hiew continue one more term as chairman? As far as Jimmy
Wong is concerned he should be thankful to Hiew for nominating him as a
candidate in the 2008 general election after much persuasion and later
became a state assemblyman.
“Now what happened is that they all
turned around against the person who had helped them genuinely, whole
heartedly and unselfishly. Their ultimate goal is to knock Hiew out once
for all. He had done nothing wrong to elect the State Assembly
opposition Leader, but they, Jimmy Wong, Junz Wong, Chan Foong Hin and
Edwin Bosi signed the disciplinary action letter against Hiew. Junz Wong
said he did not want to sign the said letter, but they made him signed.
“Well,
I really can’t stand this type of people, but Hiew is so graceful and
told me never mind because God said ‘Forgive those who sinned against
you’!” he said.

DAP tells Hiew to honour pledge, quit seat

KOTA
KINABALU: DAP Sabah wants Luyang assemblyman Dr Hiew King Cheu to
honour the party’s pledge of loyalty and integrity that he signed when
he was nominated as a candidate for the 13th general election.
This
is because the fourth pledge reads, “I shall consider myself as having
vacated my seat in the State Assembly or Parliament forthwith once I
have resigned from the party or defected to another political party for
whatever reasons, and my vacation of the seat shall be deemed absolutely
lawful and irrevocable”, DAP Sabah secretary Dr Edwin Bosi said.
Speaking
to reporters at the launch of DAPSY’s signature campaign for the Luyang
seat to be returned to DAP, Bosi, who was accompanied by Likas
assemblyman Junz Wong, said that Hiew must now vacate the seat and make
way for a by-election.
“This is a very crucial part of the five
pledges all the DAP Sabah candidates agreed to and we expect him (Hiew)
to honour what he has signed. He must remember that the people voted for
him not only because of the party but also because of the pledges and
we want him to honour this pledge,” he said.
Bosi, who is also
Kapayan assemblyman, opined that Hiew’s action is a shame not only to
the party but also to the people of Sabah and that this culture should
not be allowed to continue.
“We have to stop this culture and we
have to be matured as well as practise a fully democratic system. We
will be writing to the Sabah State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Salleh Said,
telling him about this pledge and ask him to vacate the Luyang seat.
“It
is only right that Hiew should resign and the Speaker must accept it
and consider that the Luyang seat is vacant for a by-election,” Bosi
said.
Bosi added that DAP Sabah had no reason to believe that Hiew
would do what he has done but as the latter had been crying ‘wolf’ all
the time, it did not take many by surprise.
“He met (Lim) Kit
Siang here and it came out in the news that he said, ‘I will not resign
yet as I have met with Kit Siang and we have resolved the problem’. And
yet the very next day he resigned and that is actually a big slap to our
national leader. There is no respect for our national leader. How can
you do that?
“It is a calculated move to damage the party as much
as possible because it coincides with our CEC re-election. He could have
done it long time ago but he didn’t,” Bosi said.
Junz, meanwhile,
said that DAP Sabah does not deny the infighting within the party which
Hiew said is happening, but Hiew was not marginalized as he had
claimed.
“He has always been a ‘lone ranger’ and had not been
cooperative after Jimmy Wong was elected state DAP chairman. DAP Sabah
gave him not less than RM50,000 to be used for campaigning during the
13th general election, so if the state leaders had marginalized him, we
would not have helped him.
“We were ready to talk and resolve
whatever issues there are but after embarrassing us, he left. We have to
stop this ‘frog’ culture. All the people of Sabah should unite to stop
the frog political culture. This is wrong, we have to reject the frog
politicians outright.
“The campaign will be on until we get more
than half the number of constituents in Luyang to say that they want the
seat to go back to DAP. That is voice of the people,” Junz said, adding
that the campaign is done through a ballot in four counters located at
Foh Sang, Hilltop, Damai and one more to be confirmed.
